Organized by Frederick Belton
As a result of the recent explosive eruption, the future of Ol Doinyo Lengai is very uncertain at this time. It is not known if there will be further explosive activity or if flows of fluid lava will resume at any time in the near future. Until further notice we will not offer any expeditions. We hope that Lengai will again resume its more or less continuous activity as before. However, if the history of the 1966-1967 eruption repeats itself, many years may pass before natrocarbonatite lava again flows at Lengai. Should any individuals or groups be interested in a guided visit to Lengai, we would consider organizing a custom expedition by request.

The summit and upper flank of Ol Doinyo Lengai should still be regarded as hazardous since explosive activity could resume at any time, in spite of the decrease of activity since April 2008. The long-used western climbing route through the Pearly Gates is now open but exposed to potentially dangerous activity from the crater.
